Meatless burgers have become more popular with time and nowadays they compete for the best places against the classic patty with bacon and cheese. We have chosen 10 restaurants where you won’t be disappointed to try this healthy alternative, they are so tasty, you won’t even notice the difference!
1. Superiority Burger
Famous for their namesake Superiority Burger, for $6 you can have the two times winner for best burger in town. A dark colored patty made from quinoa and carrot does all the magic, but this master creation from Brooks Headley also stands out because of its texture, achieved with crushed nuts and a set of top ingredients that mix perfectly including melted Muenster, iceberg lettuce, roasted tomatoes, all nestled in a Martin’s roll.
2. By Chloe
This Greenwich Village vegan restaurant run by Chloe Coscarelli offers three meatless burgers, each worth of trying despite the long lines. The classic patty is a mix of lentil, tempeh, chia and walnuts, covered in ketchup and a special sauce. The ‘guac’ version mixes black bean, quinoa and sweet potato into the patty and comes with guacamole and chipotle aioli. Finally, there’s a Portobello burger with grilled pineapple, onion marmalade and bourbon BBQ sauce. The veggie burgers start at $8.95.
3. NoMad Bar
After 5 p.m. you can enjoy this carefully made patty created by Chef Daniel Humm. A mix of quinoa, lentils, cremini mushrooms and corn is topped with pepperjack cheese, pickled mustard seed and piquillo pepper mayo and wrapped in a homemade bun to make this $16 veggie burger a unique dish.
4. Shake Shack
In a restaurant full of beef burgers, the ‘Shroom burger is second to none. A crisp fried Portobello patty, filled with melted Muenster and cheddar cheeses, layered with lettuce, tomato and the famous ShackSauce can be found for $7.
5. The Cinnamon Snail
This vegan food truck located in Midtown tries new ingredients in two mouth-watering burgers. The French Lentil Burger comes with artichokes, caramelized onions, coconut bacon, marinated kale and roasted garlic aioli while the Beastmode Burger Deluxe is made from seitan and Ancho chili, grilled in maple BBQ sauce and layered with jalapeño mac ’n’ cheese, smoked chili coconut bacon, baby arugula and chipotle mayo. Try this delicacies for $12.25.
6. 5 Napkin Burger
This local chain known for its big burgers offers a veggie alternative as good or better than the rest. The patty is made from beets, black beans, carrots and brown rice, and it is topped with lettuce, tomato, pickles and 5N sauce, all packed in multigrain buns.
7. Wilma Jean
For $9 you can get this veggie burger made from black beans and chipotle, we recommend you add pimento cheese for two extra bucks.
8. Bareburger
In between organic burgers made from nontraditional meats like bison, turkey, elk, duck and lamb, there are a few options for vegetarians and vegans in this restaurant chain. There’s the Prairie, with a farmer’s quinoa patty, balsamic roasted mushrooms and a sprout bun; the Farmstead, made from sweet potato and wild rice with green hummus, avocado basil dressing and a collard green wrap; or our favorite, the Guadalupe, a black bean and roasted corn patty with guacamole in a sprout bun.
