The North West city of Liverpool in the United Kingdom has so many things to offer and differentiate itself but the biggest draw is by far the local football team, Liverpool FC. One of the largest fan bases in the world, hundreds of thousands of fans make the journey each season to watch a game, whether that is the Premier League, Champions League or FA Cup all games are sold out.
Anfield Road
The official name of the stadium but ‘Anfield’ for short has recently undergone a refurbishment in which an extra 10,000 seats were already added to the 44,000 capacity. Due to the demand for LFC tickets all the seats are taken each game.
Getting to Anfield
For visitors outside of Liverpool then the main train station is Lime Street. This is located 2 miles away from the stadium with the quickest way to get to anfield being taxi. However the bus is the cheaper option costing less than £4 for a single. If you arrive in the city with only a couple of hours before kick-off then ask the taxi driver to drop you close to the stadium, traffic can get congested. The 917 service will depart from Lime Street / St Georges Plateau from 3.5 hours before kick-off. £12 return ticket for groups of four are available and U19’s can travel for just £1.10, great value. Unlike London, Liverpool has no underground but does have a good transport system with trains and buses.
Match Tickets
Tickets for Liverpool home matches start from £38 for adults in the Kop rising to £45 for the best seats in the famous stand.
The Anfield Road part of the stadium costs between £46 and £48 and the Anfield Road Upper costs £53. For those looking to get in the seats with the best view then the most expensive seats are in the Main Stand, tickets cost £55 to £59.
There are hospitality tickets available for the class c fixtures but these also sell out.For complete information on Liverpool FC Tickets then SafeFootballTickets.com is a good resource.
The Football Season
The usual football season for the Premier League stars in Mid-August and ends in May with over 20 home games for fans to enjoy. The games at the start of the season are often the cheapest to go to as well as the mid week fixtures.
Nearby Restaurants
The Boot Room
We can highly recommend the Boot Room Cafe, close to Anfield which has a great selection of traditional food including Stew and Pizza.
Local Pubs Near Anfield
There is nothing more British than visiting a pub. Before and after the games, these are full with both home and away fans making the atmosphere great. Whilst many of the pubs serve drinks in plastic glasses on match days, go to Liverpool City center and you will find this is not the case. Due to the amount of fans, getting food will normally be limited unless you manage to find seats. Here are some of our recommendations:
The Sandon
The Sandon has been voted the best pub close to the Anfield Stadium by fans and we understand why. The location, food, drink selection and general atmosphere make this a great place to go before and after. The facilities are that good that they are now a destination for Official LFC hospitality. There are also rooms available which are priced slightly in the expensive side.
The Albert
The Albert pub next to Anfield is a traditional pub if you ever did find one. It is a redbrick Victorian pub, next to Liverpool FC’s home ground, and decorated with football memorabilia. Some games are also shown on TV in case you didn’t get tickets. A great place to come for a pint.
After the Game
We highly recommend getting from the stadium to the city centre and enjoying everything the city of Liverpool has to offer. The city is some of the best night life in the UK and if you are lucky to be in the city on a weekend then make the most of it. The best place to go is concert square, this is the location of all the bars and clubs so expect many people. Mcooley’s is a recommended bar to visit.
