Designed by the two Swiss celebrity architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron, the Allianz Arena has become a glowing symbol for Bayern Munich ,TSV 1860 and German football in general!
The Arena, was built within two and a half years and opened in 2005. It is doubtlessly one of the most fascinating football stadiums in Europe, a huge membrane shell, but primarily famous for its effects generated by the flexible and stunning lighting design concept. By means of modern lighting technology, the color of the stadium’s exterior can be changed depending on the team that plays in the stadium.
When Bayern Muenchen plays, the shell turns red, it changes to blue when TSV 1860 plays and if there is a game of the national team the white color is displayed. If there is no game taking place the color of the Arena changes in between the 3 colors in 30 minutes pulse from white to red to blue.
Inside the stadium you will find three terraces with a total of 66,000 seats. The maximum overall capacity is 69,901 – for national games with standing areas behind the goals.
The total construction costs amounted to €340 million.
You can explore the Allianz Arena by joining one of the English guided tours which are offered daily at 1 p.m. , except on match days or days featuring an event. Individuals may join an Arena tour without prior reservation.
